Why does my cat have a fascination with washcloths?

I will come home after work to find the washcloth [I had left hanging in the shower to dry the night before] in the toilet. No, not just once—NUMEROUS times. He will also take them out of the laundry basket and drop them in his water bowl (he also did this with his toy mouse i’d bought him, a soft cloth-like one). Is my cat the only weird cat in the world, or has anyone else experienced this!?

I’ve never heard of it before.

It doesn’t sound like it’s hurting the cat.

Try keeping clothes in a drawer, or in an unreachable place.
